Sandblasted Sign Cost

Honestly, anyone that tells you what a sandblasted sign cost before designing the sign is either designing the sign ahead of time and including all options or is limiting your options to the basics. Let CSC design your sandblasted sign and then you get a rock-solid price. No gimmicks and no gotchas.

Sandblasted Sign Materials

Sandblasted signs can be made from either HDU (High Density Urethane) or wood. Each selection comes at a different price point and each has their benefits.

Sandblasted HDU Signs

Benefits of a Sandblasted HDU Sign

HDU is a synthetic material that comes in a variety of weights per cubic foot. For sandblasted HDU signs a typical weight would be either a 15 pound or 20 pound HDU. Of course weight affects cost. For most applications, 15 lb. HDU works just fine.

Thickness also has it's place. When a sign is sandblasted some of the material is taken out of the sign so it is important that the sign has a proper thickness for sandblasting. For one-sided signs 1-1/2 inches works well and for double-sided signs, 2 inches would be required.

Important Factors

We have been providing sandblasted signs to the Central NJ business community for over 20 years. You will be asked questions about how the sign will be installed. HDU may be a hard material but if not supported properly it can crack, ruining the sign. We don't want that and neither do you. We make sure that depending on the size of your sign, proper support is provided.

A sandblasted sign is typically installed outdoors. In Central NJ this means it must be able to withstand the weather in the Northeast. This also means the paints used are important. Only sign quality paints that are specifically made to withstand the elements are used.

Sandblasted Wood Signs

About Sandblasted Wood Signs

Sandblasted wood signs are a classic. Sandblasted wood sigs are typically what is asked for because at one time it was the only material used to produce sandblasted signs.

Price Point

Sandblasted wood signs are typically made from cedar or redwood. They are also a labor intensive sign to build. The wood does not come in sizes used for signage so it is jointed together using smaller boards. Once the boards are jointed, the slab is planed to a specific thickness. After which, it is sandblasted and painted. More labor equals higher price.

Important Notes

Wood is a living material. It expands and contracts, this being an issue for exterior signage. Regardless of how impeccable the delivered sandblasted sign may be, the expansion and contraction eventually opens cracks in the paint. Even the installation could cause issues. Lastly, the sandblast process will not yield an even depth of sandblast as the wood may be softer in some sections than others. For very small sandblasted signs wood may be an option but for larger sandblasted signs, HDU may be recommended.

Benefit of Sandblasted Wood Signs

Doubtless, wood has a classic look and their is no need to simulate a wood grain in the sandblasting process. A second benefit is that a larger sign does not need any special support as does a sandblasted HDU sign.
